Founded in 1987, the club currently races on the new Kartbahn outdoor track at the Halifax Exhibition grounds. AMKA hosts a ten race season on most Saturdays from May through to October. The ARMS regional series is also held on three weekends during the season, crowning the four regional champions in the four age groups. AMKA uses the ASN Canada ruleset allowing for competition in other provinces and national events.
Our club strives for a friendly family atmosphere for parents and children to enjoy the sport of kart racing, while developing driving skills and learning basic mechanical practices.
Admission is free and spectators are encouraged to visit the pits and talk with the drivers and crews.
These custom racing karts are less than an inch off the ground and capable of pulling 2Gs in the corners, all conform to ASN Canada, FIA specifications, run on Vega Blue spec tires and are powered by the Briggs & Stratton LO206 engine. The LO206 engines are hand-built in the USA and sealed to limit modifications and maintain a level playing field which is not dependent on mechanical ability or budget. Safety is key, all drivers must wear a Snell approved helmet, skid resistant suit, rib guard and gloves. Drivers must attend classroom and track sessions before racing with the club.
There are four age classes: Cadet 8-11, Junior 12-15, Senior 14+ and Masters 30+ with the Cadet and Junior classes being restricted with carburetor slides.
